Children of God
Children of God || Romans 8 4-17 || Dr. LaRita Primrose
There is a quiet but powerful truth tucked inside Romans 8:14–17—one that has the potential to reshape how we walk through every single day. Paul reminds us that “those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” Not guests. Not visitors. Not outsiders trying to earn a place.
Being a child of God means we are not an accident, an outsider, or an afterthought. We are chosen and wanted. God does not just tolerate us—He treasures us. Roman 8 says those who are led by the Spirit are God’s children. That means God does not just save us—He guides us.
He walks with us, nudges us, corrects us, comforts us, and grows us. We are free from fear. We are protected. Because we are His children, we do not have to figure everything out alone, we have a Father who is there for us.
We are adopted into the family of God. When God adopts us, He gives us His name, His covering, His access, and His affection. Thank you, Jesus!! Everything Christ has access to, we share in, His peace, His authority, His victory, His hope, and His future. We are His heirs. That means His promises belong to us, His peace belongs to us, His strength belongs to us, and His future belongs to us. We share in the inheritance of Christ. God creates every human being, but Scripture teaches that those who receive Christ and are led by His Spirit become part of God’s family in a deeper, spiritual way.
When you know who your Father is, and you know you have been adopted, loved, forgiven, and given an inheritance, you should show gratitude. Gratitude becomes more than a feeling. It becomes a lifestyle. We show gratitude when we forgive quickly, serve joyfully, encourage generously, extend grace free and when people experience God’s heart through us, that’s gratitude made visible.
I am so glad that God chose me. He chose me on purpose. He brought me into His household. He made my relationship permanent. You know, we do not earn adoption, we receive it, and once we are in the family, we are in. I am grateful!!
