Faith Sighted
Faith Sighted || 2 Corinthians 5:7 || Janice Bolton

for we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Cor. 5:7 (NRSV)
What is faith? Trusting God that something will happen.
I think we’ve all had the feeling of doubt. There are those times our faith is very vulnerable and shaky. These times are especially evident when lifechanging events happen. When there is more month than money, illnesses and deaths of loved ones, continuous calls from the kids’ school, spouse just won’t act right, just to name a few. And we ask God, why me and when does it stop. Oh, so it’s just me.
It’s during these times we pray we can muster up at least mustard seed sized faith. Through these times, as believers, our faith should grow. Faith removes doubt. Just as darkness and light can’t co-exist, neither can faith and doubt. It’s a firm conviction that things we hope for will happen. It allows us to see and trust God and His promises. We have to believe and rely completely on all God has said. Heb. 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. (NRSV)
What is sighted? The ability to see.
Through these lifechanging times, we are so impatient. Walking by faith allows us to readjust our vision and see the intangible. Even though we can’t see the wind, we experience the feel of it. 2 Cor 4:18 ‘because we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen, for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.’ (NRSV)
In order for us to experience faith, having a relationship with the Lord is a MUST.
Our faith grows as our relationship with God grows. As our faith grows, we’re able to allow Him to have more control of our lives. Because so many of us are visual, I think this contributes to our doubt. When we are guided by faith it leads to a willingness not to have to see and touch to believe. We have to decide to walk by faith and not by what we can see and touch.
How do we stay faith sighted? By staying plugged into God. How do we stay plugged into God? Spending time with Him through prayer and meditation, reading and studying our Bible, then applying it to our daily lives. We have to constantly exercise our faith in order to weaken and destroy our doubt. 2 Cor. 5:7 for we walk by faith, not by sight. (NRSV)
Prayer: Father, we thank you for continually correcting our faith vision. We now ask You to feed our faith and starve our doubt. Amen.
