Let Thy Will Be Done
Let Thy Will Be Done || Luke 22:42 || Deacon George Miller

“Father, If you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours’ be done”.
"Let Thy Will Be Done" is a phrase often found in religious texts, mostly found in Christian prayers and doctrines. The origin of this phrase is part of the foundation of the Lord's Prayer in the Bible, where Jesus teaches His followers to pray to God, asking for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. This prayer is a cornerstone (Jesus) of Christian faith, captures the essence of divine submission and trust in a higher power.
One of the most difficult and challenging aspects of a Christian’s walk is discerning and understanding God’s will. It is God’s sovereign control of ALL things. It always comes to pass, (1Thessalonians 5:18 = In ALL things we should give thanks, because it is the WILL of God for us through Christ Jesus). Note, it’s not just the good things in life that we encounter, but also the bad or the negative!
Surrendering to God’s will does not mean passively accepting everything that happens to us, but rather, it must be an active and intentional choice to trust God’s wisdom and plan, even when it does not align with our own desires and understanding, (Isaiah 55:8 = “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord). During our time here on earth, we will face moments of uncertainty, sometimes in the form of pain or having to make difficult decisions that may lead to strained or lost relationships, especially when our mentality tells us to do one thing, but the heart speaks with a louder and more direct tone, (that’s God talking).
At its core, "Let Thy Will Be Done" is an act of surrender. It reflects the relinquishing of personal desires, ambitions, and control, and yielding to the will of a higher authority. This surrender is not one of defeat but of profound trust and faith that the divine plan is ultimately for the greater good. By accepting this, individuals find peace and solace in the belief that they are guided and protected by a benevolent force.
When we trust God’s will especially in times of uncertainty, means that we must acknowledge that he is in total control, even when the situation is painful, (Hebrews 12:6 = For the LORD disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”).
While the Bible provides many scriptures to help us understand the “Will of God”, I truly believe the Apostle Paul’s instructions lay the foundation found in Romans 12:1-2 = Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.
The will of God will never take you,
Where the grace of God cannot keep you.
Where the arms of God cannot support you,
Where the riches of God cannot supply your needs,
Where the power of God cannot endow you.
The will of God will never take you,
Where the spirit of God cannot work through you,
Where the wisdom of God cannot teach you,
Where the army of God cannot protect you,
Where the hands of God cannot mold you.
The will of God will never take you,
Where the love of God cannot enfold you,
Where the mercies of God cannot sustain you,
Where the peace of God cannot calm your fears,
Where the authority of God cannot overrule for you.
The will of God will never take you,
Where the comfort of God cannot dry your tears,
Where the Word of God cannot feed you,
Where the miracles of God cannot be done for you,
Where the omnipresence of God cannot find you.
Prayer: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from all that is sinful and evil, for thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory forever. Amen, Amen & Amen!
