God Is With You

God Is With You
Joshua 1:7-9
Ketris (Kay) Williams
Life can be full of tough decisions, trials, and regrets. In Joshua 1:7-9 the children of Israel had wandered in the wilderness for 40 years and it was up to Joshua to lead them into the promised land. I’m sure Joshua was faced with many hard decisions and feeling overwhelmed with the weight of the task before him, but our Lord and Savior offered these words of encouraging word to Joshua:

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

What is God asking Joshua to do here, aside from stressing out? Okay, better word choice, emphasizing that He really wants Joshua to be strong and courageous? He’s telling Joshua to:

  • Obey the 10 Commandments whether he wants to or not because it’s the only way Israel will prosper (Joshua 1:7).

  • Think about God and His Word every minute of every day (Joshua 1:8).

  • Combat discouragement — because discouragement will come — by remembering that God will be with him wherever he goes (Joshua 1:9)

The bottom line of this passage: “Be strong and courageous,” - it’s not truly about Joshua’s strength or courage. It’s about Joshua seeking God first, above all else and making sure Israel does the same. Why? Because Joshua can only be strong and courageous if his strength and courage come from the Lord and not his own power.

How do this relate to Me? Great Question!
Are you drained, discouraged, and want to quit? Do you feel like you just can’t make it all the way? Try Meditating on Joshua 1:9. How has God given you courage when you have needed it to “stay in the fight”? Make sure that you are depending on God seeking him first, that you draw on His strength. Because of Him you can be strong and courageous!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me to meditate, speak, and walk in Your word Father, deliver me from fear. Help me to abide in you and never stray. Lord right now I thank you for clear instruction so I can fulfill my calling and purpose Lord thank you for the victory. Father, help me to be Strong and Courageous in the Mighty name of Jesus Amen.
