Lesson in Listening

Lesson in Listening
Isaiah 28:23- 26
Terrance Jackson

The other day my mom told me to read this scripture. After I was done, she asked me what it meant to me. I should have known I was not just reading to be reading. She always asks questions afterward. To be honest, I did not fully know because I was just reading and not listening.

She then told me to read it again, out loud and listen to what the scripture was talking about. As I listened to my voice as I am reading this scripture, I thought about what it said about listening and hearing God’s voice.

We have to pay attention to what God says so that we do things the right way. Not our way but the way that he wants them. I thought about how I should listen more to God and how I should do things the right way that he tells me to. My mom challenged me to think of ways to help me listen better.

I think I can be a better listener to God by:
  • Praying
  • Paying attention
  • Sitting still

I told my mom I would try to sit still twice a day to listen out for God. Once I do the steps that I need to do, and if I’m listening, if God tells me to do something, then I need to do it, without hesitation.

I know that to be better at listening I need to practice. So, since my mom is near, I will start working to do better at listening to her. To follow what she instructs me to do, and not question what she says. My obedience will become stronger and stronger, and just like I can hear her voice, I will know and obey God’s voice as well.

Prayer:
Father God, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ. Please help me to sit still. Please help me to pay attention and listen to you. Help me do things that you tell me to do the right way. Help me to be more like you God. I love you and thank you for all you have done in Jesus Name, Amen.
