A Good Foundation
A Good Foundation
Luke 6: 46-49
Terra Baker
Ask yourself are you wise or foolish? Now reflect on your actions. Did you build your foundation on world’s knowledge or on God’s word?
When I think about my life, and all that I have gone through I realized that in many areas I was once foolish. Just like the man who built his house on sinking sand. As a young lady, I was obedient to a certain extent, however, I had no relationship with God. It was not until after 25 years of age that I drew a connection to him and even still I did not truly know his word.
I had heard many sermons preached and read different scriptures, however, I had no idea how to apply it to my life. I downright did what I wanted to do not thinking of the long-term effects of my actions. I have recently found myself asking God for guidance on how to apply his word. I do this now because of the hard situations I have found myself in based on me leaning on my own understanding.
You see, when I was foolish, I built my house on sand. I built my house based on what the world told me I should do, I went where godless people lead me, and I was a people pleaser, instead of a pleaser of God. So, when the flood of depression, emotions, life’s hard circumstances came, my house collapsed. My world shattered and I was left broken, busted and confused. I may have heard God's words but had not applied it. How can I claim him as my Lord when I did not even follow what he says?
Based on my mistakes, I have come to realize that “God is my firm (good) foundation, the rock on which I stand.” He already has the victory so all I have to do is be obedient to what he says. I will build my house - which is my life, my character, my habits, the way I treat people especially the poor - on his words. I will apply his word in order to be grounded in his principles. Digging deep to know God is the best way to create a solid foundation. It’s important to know who God is, know what he says, to study his word daily, then apply what his word says. When the word is your foundation, when the storms come, and yes, they will come, then your house can stand against it.
In order to create a good Foundation:
Father God, thank you for your grace and mercy. Thank you for giving us time to get to know you. We strive to build a strong relationship with you, to know your word, and apply what you say. We want a good foundation Lord that can stand the test of time. This world my go astray but we stand firm on you and your truth. We love you Lord. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
